Getting Started with TetherX

Once a TetherBox is activated it scans the network it is connected to and finds the cameras and other devices on it. This page covers what to do next, in the usual order.

 Sign In

Sign in with the email address used to activate. If you do not have the password, see Reset Password. The address you sign in at depends on the region your account is hosted in, so use the link in your activation email rather than typing one from memory.

A password is not the only way in: you can also use a passkey, or a Google or Microsoft account. See Signing In.

Two settings to check on the first visit:

• Two Factor Authentication - a second factor on top of the password.
• Timezone - your own timezone, which sets the times shown against every event and recording in the interface. A TetherBox and a site each carry a timezone of their own, which is the clock their schedules are read in.

 Add Your Cameras

The TetherBox scans its network and lists the cameras it discovers. Go to Cameras and add the ones you want recorded.

• Stream settings, time synchronisation and motion detection are configured for you when a camera is added or reconnects: see Automatic Configuration.
• If a camera does not appear, see Camera Troubleshooting.
• Recording quality, retention and masking are set per camera. Capacity explains how many days of footage a given set of cameras will retain.

 Add People

Go to Users and invite the people who need access. Two settings determine what each person sees:

• User Types - the kind of account (end user, admin, integrator, staff).
• User Permissions - which sites, zones and cameras that account can access, and what it can do with them.

 Watch and Search

• Live View - multiple cameras on one screen, in a layout you configure, from any device you sign in on.
• Events - recorded incidents with their footage attached, so you do not have to search through continuous recording.
• Timelapse - a full day from one camera compressed into a few seconds.
• Native Apps - the same functions on iOS and Android.

 Configure Notifications

Notifications control which events you are told about, and by which method. Select the cameras and event categories that require a response; everything else remains searchable in Events.

If you manage more than one system, enable the Health Report, sent daily, weekly or monthly. It lists the TetherBoxes and cameras that need attention, with a link to each.

 Consider Cloud Backup

A TetherBox stores its footage on the premises, on the unit itself. With Cloud Backup, the cameras you select also upload to off-site storage, so their recordings survive if the unit is stolen or destroyed.

 Consider Professional Monitoring

Notifications tell you something happened. Professional Monitoring puts a trained operator on it: they watch the camera while the intruder is still there, speak to them over the camera, and dispatch with the footage already verified. It is arranged through your integrator, per site, and usually covers the hours the premises are empty. Monitored Hours is where those hours are set.
